Olympique Lyonnais have made a name as the master of comebacks this season ever since Pierre Sage stepped in as manager in late November last year.

Stats Perform highlights that the team has rallied from behind since Sage took over the managerial job at OL several times to earn an impressive 22 points from losing positions. This achievement stands as the highest total among teams in the top five European leagues during that time.

After their thrilling 4-3 win against LOSC Lille on May 6, where they overcame a deficit, Lyon has surpassed clubs like Manchester City (20 points) and Liverpool (16 points) in terms of earning points from comeback results under Sage.

Lyon has racked up 24 points from comeback results this season—only Liverpool (28) and Girona (25) have done better.

Sage's coaching is largely responsible for this resilience: since he came on board, OL's substitutes have contributed 18 goals (ten goals, eight assists), a feat unmatched by any other team in the top five leagues during that time.

During the 2023-24 Ligue 1 season, substitutes have scored 25 goals that gave their team the lead. Five of these were netted by substitutes from Les Gones—all since Sage took over.

This marks the highest tally of such goals for a single team, surpassing bothStade Brestois (four) and OGC Nice (three).

Sage and his team's impressive form to close out the season have allowed them two opportunities to clinch a spot in a European competition for next season. Lyon will need help if they want to reach the UEFA Europa Conference League, as they'll need RC Lens to lose while they win on the final matchday against RC Strasbourg

The other route to Europe is defeating Paris Saint-Germain in the Coupe de France, which would clinch them a spot in the UEFA Europa League next season. After a tough start to this season, Sage, along with his comeback touch, has this team thinking of Europe for next season.
