PSG's Pauleta (full name Pedro Miguel Carreiro Resendes) has been one of France's most successful foreign imports of the last ten years.

Having joined Bordeaux in 2000 from Spanish side Deportivo La Coruna (where he enjoyed a scoring rate of one goal every three games) Pauleta has gone on to win two trophies and numerous goalscoring awards during his time in France. The Portuguese hitman served immediate notice of his talent when, on his Ligue 1 debut for Bordeaux on Matchday Six of the 2000/01 campaign he scored a 39 minute hat-trick against Nantes in a 5-0 win. In his first season he finished as second top scorer with 20 goals, two behind Lyon's Sonny Anderson.

However, the next season saw him claim the award for himself with 22 goals. 2001/02 was in all a successful campaign for Pauleta and Bordeaux as 'Les Girondins' won their first League Cup (thanks to two goals from their Portuguese striker) with the former also being voted as Players' Player of the Year.

Another year and another top three place in the 2002/03 end-of-season goalscorers' list was achieved with 23 goals as well as a second consecutive Player of the Year award from his peers. After 65 goals in 98 league matches, Pauleta then transferred clubs and joined capital side PSG.

The Parisians benefited from the Portuguese's talent immediately with the winning of their first silverware in six years in the shape of the French Cup thanks to a solitary Pauleta goal in a 1-0 final win over Châteauroux. With Pauleta up front (18 goals in 37 league appearances), PSG also managed a second-place finish in Ligue 1, their best performance in four years.

Fourteen goals in season 2004/05 were enough to help PSG finish ninth and the next season the capital club lifted their second French Cup of the millennium with Pauleta having his second best ever year in French football with 21 goals and the award for the season's best goalscorer.

With ten goals already this season, Pauleta in PSG's top scorer

Now in his fourth season with PSG, club captain Pauleta has ten league goals to his name in 27 league matches. Having signed a contract to stay in the capital until the end of next season, the Portuguese forward will be keen to complete his career in Ligue 1 with a final season in the top flight fighting for more honours rather than a swansong in Ligue 2…
