Beckham to start in Coupe Classique
After making a winning debut for PSG in Sunday night's 2-0 Classique win over Marseille, David Beckham is set for a starting place as Carlo Ancelotti's men look to do it all again at the Parc des Princes in the last 16 of the Coupe de France.
All eyes were on the former Manchester United and Real Madrid midfielder even before he took the field in the 76th minute of Sunday night's clash, but Beckham grabbed the attention for all the right reasons as he slotted in neatly to Marco Verratti's midfield role and produced a magical touch to set up the clinching goal in the 2-0 win.
So impressed was coach Carlo Ancelotti with Beckham's debut that he announced in Tuesday's press conference that, with Verratti suspended for Wednesday night's Coupe de France last-16 clash with OM and Thiago Motta still injured, the former England captain will figure in the starting line-up.
Beckham should reprise his role in the centre of midfield, alongside Blaise Matuidi, with France international Jérémy Ménez, also a substitute on Sunday night, set to pip Lucas Moura on the right.
Mamadou Sakho, recovered from a thigh injury, will be available in the centre of defence, but captain Thiago Silva is still suffering from his own thigh complaint but should, along with Thiago Motta, return for next week's Champions League last-16 return leg at home to Valencia.
