Bordeaux to face Videoton FC

UEFA Europa League

Last season's sixth-placed Ligue 1 Conforama side Girondins de Bordeaux will take on Hungarian club Videoton FC in the third qualifying round of the Europa League.

Olympique de Marseille have known their third qualifying round opponents - Belgian club Oostende - since last Friday's draw, but Jocelyn Gourvennec's side had to wait a further week before finding out that they will take on Videoton, who finished second in the Hungarian league last season.

The draw pitted Bordeaux against the winner of Videoton's tie with Estonian club Kalju, who lost 3-0 at home to the Hungarians before a 1-1 draw in Székesfehérvár clinched it 4-1 on aggregate for the Girondins' future adversaries.

Do it again... but better

Bordeaux will be looking to repeat their run from season 2015-16, when they won through the third qualifying round and the play-offs for a place in the group stage, although Gourvennec will certainly be hoping to go one further and clinch a place in the round of 16 after the club, then coached by Willy Sagnol, finished winless at the bottom of a Group B that included Liverpool, Swiss side Sion and Russian outfit Rubin Kazan (two defeats, four draws).

The first leg of their third qualifying round tie will be played at the Matmut Atlantique in Bordeaux on Thursday, July 27, with the return leg to be played n Hungary on Thursday, August 3.
