Cavani injured in friendly

Other Competitions

Paris Saint-Germain striker Edinson Cavani has picked up an injury while on international duty with Uruguay and the Ligue 1 Player of the Year could miss Wednesday's friendly against Italy in Nice's Allianz Riviera stadium.

Ligue 1's top scorer in 2016-17 with 35 goals, Cavani has had an excellent season with the capital club, but his unstinting efforts throughout a long campaign may have cost him, as he limped off in the 12th minute of Uruguay's 3-1 loss to Ireland in Dublin on Sunday night.

The lethal striker pulled up after a sprint and was quickly subbed off. The Uruguay camp is yet to give an update but it is likely that the PSG hitman - who bagged 49 goals in 50 appearances - will miss his side's gala friendly against Italy at the Allianz Riviera in Nice on Wednesday night.

The good news for Uruguay is that Cavani has plenty of time to recover before their World Cup 2018 qualifying campaign resumes at home to Argentina in late August.
