International friendly, RheinEnergieStadion, Cologne

Germany  2 - 2  France

Joachim Löw (Germany coach): "Overall, we can be very happy with the year we've had: we won the Confederations Cup, we went unbeaten and we won all our World Cup qualifying matches. Tonight's match was a very interesting and thrilling one, played at a very high level. Both teams performed well. France are a top-level side, and tests like this one yield important lessons. It's always great to be able to equalise twice. We were a bit nervous in the first half, but we got forward well in the second half and pressed harder; France were very dangerous on the counter. It was the kind of match you hope for as a coach; the result wasn't the absolute priority."

Didier Deschamps (France coach): "I'm very satisfied with the way my players played. Of course it's a bit disappointing because we were close to getting the win when we conceded the leveller - and Anthony Martial had just had a huge chance to score our third. But we made a mistake at the death. Still, overall, I'm very proud of my team's performance against this excellent German side who had, in my opinion, more control. We were able to trouble them and create a lot of chances thanks to speed and technical precision. Before this camp, we qualified for the World Cup with a four-point lead over Sweden, which isn't bad when you see that they also managed to qualify. Booking our place in Russia and these two friendly matches [against Wales and Germany] prove that France has a very competitive team."
