Emery: 'PSG is ready for Madrid'

UEFA Champions League

Paris Saint-Germain coach Unai Emery has insisted his side will not suffer the UEFA Champions League heartbreak of Barcelona's miraculous remontada when they face Real Madrid next month.

Emery watched along with a disbelieving world as Barcelona turned around a 4-0 first-leg deficit to knock PSG out at the Round of 16 stage of European football's premier club competition last season with a stunning 6-1 second-leg triumph.

PSG's capitulation at the Camp Nou, where Barça scored three times in the last two minutes including a brace from now-PSG man Neymar, showed the club from the French capital how much work they needed to do to match opponents of a similar ilk.

Indouble defending European champions Madrid, PSG have such an adversary, but Emery is convinced that in the 12 months since the Barcelona debacle, the Ligue 1 Conforama leaders have progressed.

"PSG will be better prepared than a year ago against Barça. I will be too. It was an experience for this club, this team, the coach. They're experiences that prepare us for the future," the former Sevilla coach explained to Spanish media.

"PSG wants to get closer and close to Europe's greats to match them and then move past them. We have what it takes to knock out Real. Winning is an opportunity to grow."
