Euro 2012 draw: Reactions
05/12/2011
France coach Laurent Blanc says Les Bleus will give it their all to progress from Euro 2012's Group D, where they have been drawn alongside England, Sweden and Ukraine, a tough task according to Franck Ribéry.
Laurent Blanc (France coach): "I think we've been drawn in an evenly matched group of excellent teams, and I believe that each one of the sides can have hopes of making it past the group stage. All the teams will be out to do well and we know that every match will be tough. But we can’t complain, we could have been drawn in Denmark's place in Group B [along with the Netherlands, Germany and Portugal] and things would have been really tough then. It's without a doubt the toughest group. We'll fight proudly to go as far as we can in the competition."
Hugo Lloris (France 'keeper, Lyon): "Our first objective is to make it out of the group, and after that we'll take it match by match. We have to show our desire and our qualityies out on the field. We have the quality to qualify for the knockout rounds, even though it's a tough group. All four teams are on par with each other, even though it seems to me that Ukraine are maybe a bit behind. Still, they'll be playing in front of their own fans. Our first three matches will dictate what follows, especially in terms of our team's confidence. Then we'll just have to see how far we can go."
Franck Ribéry (France forward, Bayern Munich): "I remember for the World Cup in 2010, people said we had a favourable draw [South Africa, Uruguay and Mexico] and we all know what happened there. I think our group is a tough one, more complicated than the one from South Africa. I'm relieved that we avoided the group of death [Group B], and it's up to us to make it past the group stage. If you play in the Euros, you have to be aiming to go all the way. If not, there's no point. "
Noël Le Graët (FFF president): "I think progressing from this group is definitely dfeasible. We have a good chance, even though we have to remain prudent. Our team is making progress; it's undergoing a steady reconstruction - although perhaps a bit slowly. It's our lads' duty to carry themselves well. I just hope that we'll have our injured players back and that the lads can play well as a team."
