UEFA Champions League third qualifying round, first leg

Allianz Riviera, Nice

 OGC Nice 1 - 1 AFC Ajax

Lucien Favre (OGC Nice coach): "Anything is still possible. Now, it's clear, we will have to score over there next Wednesday. I'm fairly satisfied with our match; I though we were pretty solid and we didn't let them play their game all that much. The equaliser hurt us a fair bit. A tactical slip-up led to that goal; we couldn't manage to stay focused and disciplined enough in the second half and we allowed Ajax too much space. When this team manages to start finding [striker Kasper] Dolberg and the midfielders, things get complicated. But we could have made it 2-1 with a number of counter-attacks."

Marcel Keizer (AFC Ajax coach): "With a 1-1 scoreline, the chances of qualifying are pretty even. It's still wide open. In the first half, we didn't make the most of the space we had; the Nice midfielders shut us down with their heavy pressing. Nice opened the scoring thanks an error from us. We talked a lot at the break and we were much better after that. Our equaliser fell into our laps a bit. We could perhaps have carved a bigger advantage for ourselves but the draw is a fair result."
