Garde: 'It's pretty tough to beat us'
09/02/2012
Proud OL boss Rémi Garde says his squad is in formidable shape after their 3-1 win over Bordeaux, while Lille's Rudi Garcia must re-focus on the league after his side were knocked out of the Coupe de France 2-1 by Valenciennes.
Lyon 3 - 1 Bordeaux

Rémi Garde (Lyon coach): "Even though we conceded the first goal on Bordeaux's first incursion into our half, I think we deserved our victory given the match as a whole. It's good to be on an upwards spiral; victory breeds victory. Our team showed a lot of heart and a lot of character. It's the entire squad that is stepping up to the plate each match. There are still aspects of our game that need perfecting, but mentally we're formidable and it's pretty tough to beat us at the moment."
Francis Gillot (Bordeaux coach): "Lyon didn't field their best side tonight, but given the strength of their bench, they made it through. There were some hairy decisions, and I think that certain details could have changed the outcome, but in the end, OL were stronger than us. But still, my lads played a courageous and encouraging match. Overall, we played quite well, but Lyon were better."
Valenciennes 2 - 1 Lille ![]()
Rudi Garcia (Lille coach): "When you have so many chances and you don't convert them, you're never safe. We lacked some clean finishing tonight but you make your own luck. Now things are simple: we have to give everything we have in the league, starting on Sunday with the visit of Bordeaux, which is a very important match. We have to defend third place in the league and we'll give all we've got not to let the teams in front get away from us."
Daniel Sanchez (Valenciennes coach): "The most important thing is that we've qualified. We played the match we wanted to; we played to our strengths. And the result shows that that was the right thing to do. My lads gave everything and we've al very happy; we beat Lille on our home turf and we're into he quarters. The league is still our priority, but we'll try and go as far as we can in this competition."
Châteauroux 0 - 2 Montpellier ![]()
René Girard (Montpellier coach): "There's only one thing that counts, and that's qualification. I'm also pleased with the fact that we still haven't conceded a goal [in 2012] and that we've been very effective when opportunities have presented themselves. We had to adapt to the synthetic pitch, which isn't easy, but all together I thought my lads were in good shape. Now we're in the enviable position of having a quarter-final to play - hopefully we will be drawn at home for once!"
Didier Tholot (Châteauroux coach): "I think we missed our chance in the first half. I have my regrets about the first half in particular, because we had chances and we lifted our game to mix it with Montpellier. But this is high-level football, and you have to take your chances. That's the end of our cup, but no we can focus again on climbing back up the [Ligue 2] table."
