UEFA Champions League, Last 16, 1st leg

 Lyon 1 - 0 Apoel FC

Rémi Garde (Lyon coach): "This result leaves us every chance of securing qualification in Nicosia. Now we're at the half-way point of the tie and it's very hard to say what our chances are. It'll be a tough match in Cyprus. We could have scored a second goal but I'm not disappointed. We scored the first one, and that's very important for what's to come. Our aim was to score goals and not conceded any against a side that likes to soak up the pressure and then hit on the counter. We were patient, putting our attacks together carefully and we made the break. In the return leg, APOEL will have to score at least one goal; they'll have to attack, and we'll be ready for them."

Ivan Jovanovic (APOEL coach): "They were better than us, we have to accept that. Their win was deserved. My players worked hard and we have the second leg. We will do our best to turn this around but Lyon have an important advantage. We are actually quite satisfied with the result. We have played better than we did tonight but often your performance is affected by your opponents, too. They were strong, worked hard and did not allow us to play our normal game."
