Monaco draw Juve in final four

UEFA Champions League

The draw for the UEFA Champions League semi-finals has pitted AS Monaco against Italian giants Juventus, while there will be a Madrid derby between Real and Atlético in the other fixture.

If they are to extend their historic run from the third qualifying round to the final itself, high-flying Ligue 1 leaders AS Monaco will have to contend with the might of Italian giants Juventus following the semi-finals draw at UEFA head-quarters in Nyon, Switzerland on Friday.

Leonardo Jardim's side were eliminated by La Vecchia Signora at the quarter-final stage two seasons ago, but a lot has changed since then. Only ten players from that match remain in the principality club's squad, and the team has since then developed an irresistible attacking style and should pose Juventus plenty of problems - even though Massimiliano Allegri's side knocked attack-minded Barcelona out to reach this stage of the competition.

The first leg will be played at the Stade Louis II in Monaco on Wednesday, May 3, with the return leg in Turin a week later, when the Bianconeri's 22-match unbeaten run at home in the Champions League will up the ante even further.

Madrid derby

Meanwhile the other semi-final is a reprise of the competition's finals in 2014 and 2016, pitting holders Real Madrid against city rivals Atlético, who will doubtless be out to avenge their two lost finals and deny their cross-town bugbears the chance to become the first club to defend their Champions League title.
