OM tie switched

French Cup

It has been confirmed that Marseille's Coupe de France last-16 tie against amateur side Bourg-Péronnas will now be played at the Stade Vélodrome this Wednesday.

OM were drawn to play the fourth-tier side away from home, with Saint-Etienne's Stade Geoffroy-Guichard named as the venue. However, freezing temperatures forced the postponement of the game last midweek, and there were concerns that the pitch at Le Chaudron would again be unplayable this week with snow forecast.

With Marseille's Ligue 1 game at Evian on Saturday also called off, and their two-legged Champions League last-16 tie against Internazionale just around the corner, they are facing up to the prospect of serious fixture congestion. The boards of both clubs, along with the French Football Federation, have therefore decided to switch the tie to the Vélodrome on Wednesday, with kick-off set for 17:00 CET.

Bourg-Péronnas, from the small town of Péronnas not far to the north-west of Lyon, made headlines last month when they eliminated AC Ajaccio in the round of 32.
