PSG face Real tough test

UEFA Champions League

Despite topping their group, Paris Saint-Germain received a tough draw for the UEFA Champions League's Round of 16: reigning two-time champions Real Madrid, the competition's most successful-ever side (12 titles).

After being paired with Barcelona at this stage of the competition last season, Paris Saint-Germain will this time around do battle with the Blaugrana's arch-rivals Real Madrid, reigning champions in the competition after becoming the first ide in history to defend a Champions League title as they saw off Juventus 4-1 in the final in June.

Emery optimistic

"I don't think it's the worst possible draw for us," said PSG boss Unai Emery following the draw. "We have the quality to take them on. The Champions League is all about taking on the best teams. We're happy to be facing off against them. They have talent, but so do we. My team is ready for this tie."

Current Ligue 1 Conforama leaders Paris, who will be making their sixth consecutive Round of 16 appearance, have in the past eliminated Real Madrid from European competition on two occasions: once in the UEFA Cup quarters in 1992-93 and in the Cup Winners' Cup quarters the following season. In the UEFA Champions League, PSG faced off against Real in the season 2015-16 group stage, holding the Spaniards to a scoreless draw in Paris before coming unstuck 1-0 at the Bernabeu.

The first leg will be played in Madrid on 13/14 or 20/21 February 2018, with the return leg set for the Parc des Princes on 6/7 or 13/14 March 2018.
