Lyon will have to do without the services of their Brazilian dead-ball specialist as they look to back up their heroic 1-0 first-leg win over the Spanish giants.
Bastos, who has started all three of Lyon’s league matches (4-0 in Sochaux, 2-0 at home to Nice and 0-0 away to Boulogne) since Jean II Makoun’s strike put Real on the back foot in the tie, has been declared unfit for the match through a muscle strain and the seven-goal winger has not joined Claude Puel’s 20-man squad for the trip to the Spanish capital.
The Lyon boss should, however, be able to count on the services of midfielder César Delgado, whose excellent attacking play helped keep Madrid on the back foot in the first leg, the Argentine having returned to action against Boulogne at the weekend after missing two matches with a thigh strain.
Also available will be Argentine international and club top scorer Lisandro Lopez, as well as France defender Aly Cisshoko, both of whom have overcome injury niggles to make the trip as Lyon look to topple a giant of the game and progress to the quarter-finals for the first time in four seasons.
