FRENCH CUP
Paris look to hook French Cup lifeline
Paris coach Antoine Kombouaré knows that a win in the round-of-16 French Cup clash with CFA (D4) side Vesoul on Tuesday night is imperative if the capital club is to salvage anything from a troubled season. Meanwhile Boulogne, Sochaux and Rennes also take on lower-league opposition as they look to book a place in the quarter-finals.
Gillot: ‘Dream debut for Ideye’
Sochaux coach Francis Gillot felt that Nigeria U-23 international Brown Ideye’s stunning two-goal home debut was the highlight of his side’s round-of-32 French Cup win over Le Mans, while Saint-Etienne coach Christophe Galtier was concerned by his side’s narrowest of wins over CFA side Villfranche to go through to the round of 16.
Bréchet: ‘Sochaux has Cup spirit’
Captain Jérémie Bréchet knows confidence will be the key as Sochaux look to build on their strong start to 2010 by taking a step further towards repeating the club’s 2007 French Cup triumph in the round-of-32 clash with Le Mans on Wednesday night.
Correa: ‘The worst possible way’
Nancy coach Pablo Correa struggled to find any positives in his side’s 2-0 French Cup elimination at the hands of National (D3) side Plabennec, while Boulogne coach Laurent Guyot was pleased his side didn’t meet a similar fate, qualifying for the last 16 with a 2-1 win over CFA2 (D5) outfit Colmar, who had already eliminated Lille in the round of 64.
Nancy fall to Plabennec
Two second-half goals in two minutes from National (D3) side Plabennec’s Vincent Créhin sent Nancy crashing out of the French Cup 2-0, while Boulogne accounted for CFA (D4) outfit Colmar as the round of 32 continued on Wednesday night.
Boulogne take on Lille-killers Colmar
Both Boulogne and Nancy are set to take on French Cup giant-killers as their postponed round-of-32 matches get under way on Wednesday night, against CFA (D4) side Colmar and National (D3) outfit Plabennec respectively.
