Laurey: 'Create a dynamic'
RC Strasbourg Alsace coach Thierry Laurey was pumped following the win over high-flying Saint-Etienne, while LOSC boss Marcelo Bielsa welcomed the confidence that could stem from booking a place in the round of 16.
RC Strasbourg Alsace 1 - 1 AS Saint-Etienne (5 - 4 on pens)
Thierry Laurey (RC Strasbourg Alsace coach): "We played a good match. We really put it together out there and the lads lived up to our expectations. It proves that we have a squad capable of mixing it with good Ligue 1 Conforama sides. We hit our straps tonight and we need to build on it, capitalise on it to gain in confidence and create a dynamic."
Oscar Garcia (AS Saint-Etienne coach): "I think we deserved better, as the players gave absolutely everything in the final minutes. We had a chance to make it 2-1, but in the end, a penalty shoot-out is a lottery. It was a very tough match for us. In football, if you're not clinical in the opponent's penalty area, and if you're not aggressive in your own, you get nowhere."
ESTAC Troyes 1 - 2 Amiens SC
Jean-Louis Garcia (ESTAC Troyes coach): "I'm very disappointed. We were playing at home against a fellow promoted club. It was a great opportunity to get off to a good start in one of the two cup competitions. I didn't see enough quality tonight."
Julien Ielsch (Amiens SC defender): "We turned in a great match against a strong side who had beaten us twice in the league and once in a friendly. We had our hearts set on pulling off a huge performance. We're making progress but we mustn't get carried away."
Dijon FCO 1 - 2 Stade Rennais FC
Christian Gourcuff (Stade Rennais coach): "It's very satisfying to have qualified for the next round. We had an excellent second half, controlling the game well. Despite losing several players to injury, we stuck together and pressed hard while using the ball well."
Olivier Dall'Oglio (Dijon FCO coach): "Really, we're just can't cut it in the Coupe de la Ligue. We had a great first half, with a beautiful goal and scoring chances… but we lacked cutting edge and ended up conceding a goal despite everything. And then another at the death. What an awful night, especially as we lost two attackers to injury (Naim Sliti and Wesley Saïd)."
Tours FC 3 - 1 FC Nantes
Claudio Ranieri (FC Nantes coach): "It's very tough to start a match 2-0 down. It was the same scenario as against Lille at the beginning of the season. After 15 minutes, we were 3-0 down and the match was extremely difficult after that. I wanted to see the players who don't get so much game time do their thing, and now I have clearer ideas of what I can do."
LOSC 2 - 2Valenciennes FC (5 - 4 on pens)
Marcelo Bielsa (LOSC coach): "If we can continue this run, hopefully it will prompt a rise in our confidence and self-assurance. In this current context, it was imperative that we win because we have been struggling not to commit errors. Sometimes we commit fewer errors when we're in a more positive mental state. So hopefully that will help us in the matches to come. On the other hand, being knocked out tonight cold have had a toxic effect."
FC Metz 1 - 0 Red Star FC
José Pinot (FC Metz interim coach): "Right now we can't afford to sneeze at any victories. We didn't control the match, but I liked how reacted and our general attitude. It wasn't amazing, but it will give us a bit of confidence for the days ahead."
Angers SCO 3 - 2 AS Nancy Lorraine
Stéphane Moulin (Angers SCO coach): "Congratulations to the lads but it was a shame we put ourselves in a tough spot in the first place. But we achieved our objective and it will remain a great evening. We scored goals and we won our first home match of the season. It's cruel for our opponents but I think we largely deserved the win. Things turned out well and we managed to strike a blow against our Coupe de la Ligue curse."
Toulouse FC 4 - 2 Clermont Foot
Pascal Dupraz (Toulouse FC coach): "Clermont played a very good match. Their coach opted to rotate his squad. That's his business, but they played well and we had to really knuckle down to get the win. Two goals up after two magnificent strikes, we shouldn't have allowed ourselves to be caught. But that's football."
