Mbappé's AS Monaco reunion
Signed by Paris Saint-Germain last summer, Kylian Mbappé will play his second consecutive Coupe de la Ligue final against boyhood club AS Monaco on Saturday, April 31.
On Saturday, Kylian Mbappé should line up in his third AS Monaco-Paris Saint-Germain fixture of the season. After losing the Trophée des Champions with the principality club, the young forward, who left for the capital in the summer transfer window, made a victorious return to the Stade Louis II with Paris (1-2) in Ligue 1 Conforama's Week 14. At the Matmut Atlantique, he will once again face off against his former club in a Coupe de la Ligue final full of promise.
A special connection with the Coupe de la Ligue
A losing finalist with AS Monaco last season, Mbappé played the whole match as his future club ran out 4-1 winners. Despite this disappointment, the rising French star has a special connection with the Coupe de la Ligue, having made his senior-team debut (December 16, 2015), scored his first senior hat-trick (December 14, 2016) and picked up his first red card (January 30, 2018) in the seven matches he has played in the competition.
Since the beginning of his career, the young man from the Paris region has clocked up some simply stunning stats in Ligue 1 Conforama, with 29 goals and 16 assists in 63 matches in France's top flight. Despite his transfer, the 19-year-old France international has kept his head on his shoulders and quickly adapted to life in the Parisian dressing room. He quickly brought his talent and his effectiveness to bear for Paris Saint-Germain, for whom he is the third-top scorer in all competition this season (19 goals), behind Cavani (33) and Neymar (28).
Four goals in his last four matches
In 2018, the Parisian has fired seven goals in 15 matches in all competitions, including four in his last four Ligue 1 Conforama matches. Despite all these numbers, Kylian Mbappé knows that he will have to do even better if he wants to make the difference in this 24th Coupe de la Ligue final - especially as he has never scored nor provided an assist in a match between the two sides. The brace he bagged for France in the 3-1 friendly win over World Cup 2018 host nation Russia could well have got him in the mood though…
