Coupe de la Ligue quarter-final

FC Nantes  0 - 2  AS Nancy Lorraine

Nancy got the job done by scoring twice in the first half at the Stade de la Beaujoire and then soaking up the pressure after the break to secure their place in the last four. They opened the scoring just after the half-hour mark when the Nantes defence was completely caught out near the halfway line and Anthony Koura ran through on goal. Maxime Dupé got a touch to Koura's shot but the ball looped up and towards the line where the inrushing Maurice Dale nodded in (31').

The crucial second arrived in stoppage time at the end of the first period, Loïc Puyo playing a free-kick short to Joffrey Cuffaut who had the time to take a touch and thrash in a shot from fully 30 yards that took a slight deflection on its way through.

Nantes bombarded the away goal in the second period but their long-standing difficulties at putting the ball in the net were all too evident once again and Sergey Chernik recorded a clean sheet as Nancy eased through.

After four successive wins in all competitions, this was a first defeat for Nantes under their new coach Sérgio Conceição, while Nancy stay on course for a place in April's final at the Parc OL in Lyon. The one black note of the evening for them was the loss of skipper Michaël Chrétien to injury in the first half.

THE PLAYER: Maurice Dalé

Dalé got the only goal as Nancy won at AS Saint-Etienne in the last round and it was his opener that set the visitors on their way here.

The number of years that have passed since Nancy reached a cup semi-final. It is the first time they have gone so far in either knockout competition since they won the Coupe de la Ligue in 2006, beating OGC Nice 2-1 in the final.
