Angers edge out relegation rivals Amiens
Pierrick Capelle's early goal gave Angers SCO a 1-0 win over Amiens SC at the Stade Raymond Kopa on Saturday that helped them stay clear of the relegation zone.
Angers SCO 1 - 0 Amiens SC
The only goal of this key encounter towards the bottom of the table arrived just six minutes in. Karl Toko Ekambi laid the ball off for Billy Ketkéophomphone, and he went for goal from 25 yards. His shot should, though, have been a routine save for Régis Gurtner, but the Amiens goalkeeper spilled it and Capelle was there to convert the loose ball for his second goal in three Ligue 1 Conforama games.
That would be that for the scoring, with Gurtner redeeming himself to some extent by making key saves from Toko Ekambi on two occasions, one in the 12th minute and another just after half-time.
Amiens had ended a run of six league games without a win as they beat EA Guingamp last time out but the Picardy side could not build on that here. They lacked a goal threat, even if Gaël Kakuta sent a free-kick just wide after the break (73').
Angers are now 16th, behind Amiens only by a difference of one goal, with both teams just above the relegation zone.
THE PLAYER: Pierrick Capelle
The versatile midfielder scored in the 3-1 win over ESTAC Troyes in Angers' last home outing and he was at it again here with the decisive counter his eighth goal in 80 top-flight appearances for the club.
THE STAT: 3
Angers have now won three consecutive home games after failing to win any of their first eight Ligue 1 Conforama outings at the Stade Raymond Kopa this season. AS Monaco will be the next visitors.
