Angers poop Amiens party

Ligue 1 Conforama > Match Reports

Angers SCO ruined Amiens SC's hopes of ending their first-ever Ligue 1 Conforama home game with some reward as they secured a 2-0 win on Saturday.

 Amiens SC 0-2 Angers SCO

Perhaps the occasion got to the hosts as they were sluggish out of the blocks. The visitors' Enzo Crivelli caused numerous problems. He held the ball up for Pierrick Capelle to test Régis Gurtner (5'), and then could have scored himself had he managed to get his header on target after the home defence had surrendered possession cheaply (26').

They did not learn their lesson. Less than 60 seconds later, they allowed Thomas Mangani to get on the ball high up the pitch, and his pass provided Crivelli with the chance to shoot beyond Gurtner (27').

Charly Charrier came desperately close to an equaliser — and Amiens' first Ligue 1 Conforama strike — but his effort hit a post with Alexandre Letellier seemingly beaten in the visitors' goal (31').
In Gilles Sunu and Mangani, Angers had two individuals of a quality the hosts could not match, and the latter showed his talent to double Angers' lead.

Gurtner appeared to have snuffed out the danger of a through ball when he won the race to it ahead of Crivelli, but his clearance fell to the feet of Mangani, who immediately sent a lob of some 35 metres into the net (56').

Gaël Kakuta thought he had claimed at least some consolation six minutes from time when he slotted the ball into the net but Amiens — beaten 2-0 at Paris Saint-Germain on the opening weekend — were denied by the offside flag (84').

THE PLAYER: Thomas Mangani
The former AS Monaco and AS Nancy Lorraine midfielder may be 30, but his feet remain as sharp as ever. His football brain is equally alert, and his brilliant lob was just the highpoint of a complete display.

This was the teams' maiden Ligue 1 meeting.
