Angers sweep aside Guingamp

Angers SCO continued their good recent form with a convincing 3-0 win over En Avant Guingamp on Saturday.

 Angers SCO 3-0 EA Guingamp

Guingamp had never lost to Angers in Ligue 1, and appeared set to extend that record as they opened positively.

Jimmy Briand had an early chance (9') that he failed to take; the former France international forward then connected with a volley that was headed away by Ismaël Traoré (13') as Antoine Kombouaré's men, 5-0 victors over SC Bastia last time out, hit the ground running.

Lucas Deaux even hit the crossbar with a header from a Yannis Salibur corner before the break (39') only for the hosts to finally emerge from their shells after the interval.

Angers had lost just once in their previous six league matches, though that was their last game - a 3-0 defeat to Olympique de Marseille - but Stéphane Moulin's men got themselves back on track with a superb second-half display.

Forceful run

Jonathan Bamba had already forced Karl-Johan Johnsson to race from his area to cut out a dangerous ball destined for the Angers man (60') when he then opened the scoring following a smart one-two with Thomas Mangani (63'), who recorded his fifth assist of a fruitful 2017.

The artful midfielder then struck his second goal of the year just six minutes later, this time taking advantage of a forceful run and cross from Bamba on the right flank, firing a first-time show beyond Johnsson (69').

Johnsson brilliantly denied Cheikh N'Doye a third, turning the Angers captain's close-range effort over the bar with a breathtaking reflex stop (78'), before he was beaten again, though he had seen Famara Diedhiou skip past Deaux and Jérémy Sorbon before firing in a superb solo third (83').

Briand might have pulled one back when following up after Mathieu Michel had pushed out Moustapha Diallo's header (87') though Angers came closer still to adding to the scoreline when Nicolas Pele's shot rapped a post (89').

THE PLAYER: Thomas Mangani
His form is one of the main reasons Angers have been flying of late.

Guingamp are now winless in ten Ligue 1 games away from home.
