Balotelli doubles down at Nice

OGC Nice have announced that Italy international superstar Mario Balotelli has renewed his contract with the club, reportedly signing on with last season's third-placed side for another season.

Balotelli had an excellent first season in France in the 2016-17 campaign, bagging 17 goals in 28 appearances in all competitions and now, with a view to claiming a place in Italy's squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia, Super Mario has opted to extend the adventure with Lucien Favre's side.

Balotelli arrived as a free agent on a one-year deal from Liverpool last summer and it seems he feels right at home on the French Riviera, agreeing to certain financial compromises in order to favour "the sporting aspect and follow his heart," according the club's official website

Back to work

Now locked in for the season to come, Balotelli will join up with Favre's squad - including new recruits Pierre Lees-Melou (Dijon FCO), Jean-Victor Makengo (SM Caen) and Adrien Tameze (Valenciennes) - as preparations begin for Nice's early start to the season with Champions League third qualifying round action.

Nice will find out whom they are to face when the third qualifying round draw is held in July 14, with the first leg to be played on July 25/26 with the return leg a week later on August 1/2.
