Balotelli: 'Secret is at home, not in my work'

Mario Balotelli believes his unprecedented goalscoring success at OGC Nice this season is down to domestic bliss off the pitch.

The Italy international striker has scored 22 times in 30 competitive outings — only 27 of which were starts — for his Ligue 1 Conforama club this season, the best return of his career for a single campaign.

The 27-year-old explained to Italia Uno that his happiness off the pitch has led to success on it.

"I'm less injured than before. I'm playing better. I have found peace at home with [partner] Clelia. The secret is in my home, not in my work."

The former Manchester City and Liverpool man hopes his form will be enough to convince interim Italy boss, Luigi Di Biagio, to hand him an international recall.

Di Biagio recently admitted he had been to visit Balotelli in France, and with friendlies against Argentina in Manchester and England at Wembley looming this month, 'Super Mario' is hoping his four-year international exile will soon be over.

"I love my national team and I would love to return," said the ex-Inter Milan prodigy, who has scored 13 times in 33 appearances for the Azzurri.

"In the past, Antonio Conte was right not to take me because I wasn't good. But I didn't understand why Giampiero Ventura didn't call me up."
