Girondins de Bordeaux saw their perfect start to the Ligue 1 season ended in a 1-1 draw with SC Bastia at the Stade Chaban-Delmas on Sunday afternoon.

Girondins de Bordeaux  1 - 1  SC Bastia

It looked for long spells as though Gadji Tallo's 18th-minute strike would be enough for the Corsicans to win the game, but Diego Rolán struck with 11 minutes remaining to earn the hosts a share of the spoils. Bordeaux will be relieved to have taken something from the game but Willy Sagnol will be disappointed at missing out on becoming the first man to win his first four games as a coach in the French top flight since Marc Rastoll achieved the feat with Metz in 1978-79.

Bordeaux remain top of the table for now while Bastia are still in the bottom half, although their only defeat so far has come away to the champions Paris Saint-Germain.

Bordeaux's hopes of recording yet another victory were compromised by the absence of left-back Diego Contento and in particular Cheick Diabaté, who was suspended after his red card in last weekend's win at Nice. Bastia, meanwhile, were unchanged following the 1-0 win against Toulouse which was Claude Makelele's first as a coach.

The afternoon did not start well for the Corsicans however. They had intended to run out onto the field at the Stade Chaban-Delmas in their third strip but instead they brought the wrong colours and so were forced to borrow white training shirts from their hosts.

That helping hand from Bordeaux was followed by another, though, as Bastia opened the scoring in the 18th minute. Floyd Ayité got up above Mariano to meet a right-wing cross at the far post, only to miscue his header. However, the ball dropped perfectly for Tallo to slot home from eight yards.

Dramatic

Bordeaux had already recovered six points from losing positions this season and they pushed forward in search of an equaliser, with Wahbi Khazri a driving force in midfield. The former Bastia playmaker exchanged passes with Julien Faubert before unleashing a vicious right-foot strike that whistled past the far post midway through the first half and he tried his luck again from long range shortly before the interval.

Les Girondins trailed at the interval and they were frustrated seven minutes into the second half when a stunning Emiliano Sala volley from the edge of the box was ruled out for an infringement in the build-up. And when a Khazri shot was deflected just wide by Sébastien Squillaci after good work by Mariano on the right, it looked as if Bastia might hold on to record a first win in Bordeaux for 11 years.

However, the final outcome hinged on a dramatic moment quarter of an hour from the end. When Ayité rounded home 'keeper Cédric Carrasso Bastia were poised to double their advantage, but the former Bordeaux winger’s net-bound shot was deflected onto the bar by Nicolas Pallois.

And four minutes later Bordeaux drew level. Brazilian right-back Mariano was the provider with a flighted ball into the box for Rolán, with the Uruguayan controlling on his chest before turning to fire home and score his third goal of the campaign.
