Rennes plunged PSG into more danger near the foot of Ligue 1 with a 2-0 win over the capital club in the early Matchday 28 game.
An own-goal from young defender Mamadou Sakho and a second-half effort from Jimmy Briand ensured all three points for the Brittany team coupled with a demoralising defeat for PSG in their 1,300th Ligue 1 match.
Three points separated the two teams prior to kick-off but history was on the side of Rennes. Paul Le Guen knew that to haul his side to relative safety his team would have to break a losing run at the Stade de la Route de Lorient which has spanned six years.
A disallowed Amara Diané goal and a subsequent missed header were all the PSG had to show for a spirited, if unsuccessful, first period. Rennes also had a goal chalked off before taking the lead in fortunate circumstances when Sakho headed past Landreau just minutes before the break.
The ever lively Briand extended the lead within five minutes of the restart following some slack defending from the PSG back four. Pauleta then missed an opportunity to bring his side within a goal as the visitors struggled to maintain some pressure on the host's defence.
In the end Rennes held on comfortably to consign PSG to their third successive away defeat, a reverse which puts the Ligue 1 future of the League Cup finalists in severe doubt.
