Bulut keeps Toulouse on roll
Toulouse continued their fine start to the season as Umut Bulut scored the only goal of the game as the south-westerners beat rock-bottom Nancy on Saturday.
Nancy had failed to win on 19 previous trips to the Pink City and had not scored in their last seven matches against Toulouse in all competitions. That miserable record was extended as Bulut found the net just before the hour mark (59') to move his side level on 17 points with leaders Lyon.
Nancy's difficulties have been apparent so far this season, but they almost struck first with Benjamin Moukandjo stretching Ali Ahamada in the opening minutes. Toulouse, though, have been impressive under Alain Casanova, and would have gone in front through Aymen Abdennour, but the defender's header was well cleared by Samba Diakité as the pair went in level at the break.
Moukandjo was involved again as Nancy tested Ahamada once more - the former Monaco man's cut-back found Daniel Niculae in space, but the Romanian international could not beat the Toulouse 'keeper from inside the box.
The hosts finally found their cutting edge just before the hour mark. Franck Tabanou had scored in his previous two matches against Nancy, and in his last two Ligue 1 matches. Though the gifted midfielder did not find the net, he beat Helder before crossing for Bulut to score his second for his new club.
Niculae and Moukandjo's understanding bodes well for Nancy's future, and the pair almost brought the visitors level, and Jean Fernandez's men should perhaps have claimed a point in the dying seconds - Jo-Gook Jung flashed his shot across the face of Ahamada's goal, though, to leave the Lorraine club still without a win this season.
