If Saint-Etienne are still in the European mix, despite back-to-back losses, then much of it is down to Rémy Cabella, whose energy and skill are powering Les Verts.

Having overcome numerous injury setbacks, the man on loan from Marseille has shone in recent weeks, registering five goals and two assists in his last eight games, although he did miss a penalty that would have made the score 2-2 late on against Bordeaux in Week 36.

Cabella told The Ligue 1 Show on beIN Sports: "I'm feeling good at the moment. My coach and my team-mates trust me, I’m getting back to my best so I'm grateful."

The former Newcastle United man is enjoying his best season in four years. After finishing the 2013-14 season with 14 goals, Cabella earned a place in the French World Cup squad, his current coach Jean-Louis Gasset believes he needs to add more to his game if he is to repeat the feat.

Gasset said: "If he wants to become a top top player, he has to score more goals! He has the quality, the energy and the technique. It's essential that he scores more considering his position - that would represent progress!"

A difficult couple of seasons with Marseille saw Cabella move on loan to Saint-Etienne in August. Although the deal is set to expire in late June, the Corsican-born forward isn’t ruling out a longer stay at the Geoffroy-Guichard.

Cabella admitted:  "When I arrived I didn’t expect to feel so good here, it's a great opportunity for me and I feel good. Of course my contract states I am supposed to go back to Marseille so we’ll see how things end up, but I owe Saint-Etienne a lot, and it's not finished yet."
