Cavani: 'I really love this club'

Paris Saint-Germain's Uruguayan international striker has told The Telegraph that his wish is to stay with the capital club, for whom he has struck 19 Ligue 1 Conforama goals in 18 appearances this season.

Cavani has been at Paris since 2013 and if the 30-year-old has his way, his stay in the French capital will last for several more seasons. The Uruguayan has flourished since stepping out of the large shadow of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, and his stunning strike rate has him on track to own several of the Swede's club records before long - including the all-time goal record of 156, which he trails by a single strike.

"I really love this club," declared the striker, under contract with PSG until 2020, while on the club's Qatar Winter Tour 2017. "I want to stay here for a long time. You never know what will happen in football, but my wish is truly to be happy at PSG and win lots of trophies!"

European dream

Among those trophies is, of course, the Champions League, a competition in which Paris have failed to get past the quarter-finals in recent years. However, Unai Emery's men were in stellar form in the group stage in 2017-18 and are now among the real contenders to go all the way.

"In every competition, there can be only one winner. But Paris are one of the best teams in the world, " he declared. "It will be difficult to win the Champions League, but that's what we want to do: win Ligue 1 Conforama and then the Champions League."
