USA international striker Charlie Davies has returned to France following the end of his loan move to MLS outfit DC United and is set to finish the season with parent club Sochaux.

Davies was loaned out to DC United at the beginning of 2011 as he sought to regain match fitness following an epic recovery from life-threatening injuries sustained in a car crash in late 2009.

After scoring 11 goals in 26 appearances to help the side from the US capital into the MLS play-offs, Davies has returned to France to resume training with Mécha Bazdarevic's Sochaux squad, and is set to see out the season wearing the number 12 shirt for Les Lionceaux, with whom he remains under contract until 2013.

'Excited to get back on the field'

"I'm back in Europe!" tweeted the ebullient striker who is evidently not discouraged by DC United's declining to exercise the option to buy that was part of his loan deal. "Feels really good and I'm excited to get back on the field. I'm putting in the extra work this year, truly blessed to be playing the game I love."

Davies made a stellar start to his Ligue 1 career in the 2009-10 season, notably scoring a double on debut against Bordeaux - form that cemented the 25-year-old's place in the USA's starting line-up - before the horrific car accident that threatened to take his life and end his career.
