Draxler joins PSG's star-studded squad
Paris Saint-Germain have announced the signing of 23-year-old Germany international Julian Draxler from Wolfsburg on a four-and-a-half-year deal worth a reported €38 million.
The reigning four-time Ligue 1 champions may already have a raft of attacking midfield talent - Hatem Ben Arfa, Javier Pastore, Angel Di Maria and Lucas Moura, not to mention the newly arrived Giovani Lo Celso - but now they also have world champion Julian Draxler, who signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with the club from the French capital on Tuesday.
Draxler: 'Very proud'
It is with great joy and anticipation that I join Paris Saint-Germain," said Draxler, one of Germany's brightest young stars, after signing his contract. "For the first time in my career, I'm going to discover a new country, a new league, and I'm very proud to take this new step at a club which has become a benchmark in Europe and has signed a lot of great players in recent years. I will do everything to help Paris Saint-Germain win new trophies and continue to grow internationally."
Draxler came up through the youth academy at hometown club Schalke before signing for Wolfsburg to replace Kevin De Bruyne 18 months ago. His pace, dribbling talent and mental strength saw him earn his first cap for Germany in May of 2012, at the age of 18, before being included in the squad that won the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Al-Khelaïfi: 'Play a major role'
"I am delighted to welcome Julian Draxler to the Paris Saint-Germain family," declared club Chairman and CEO Nasser Al-Khelaïfi. "The transfer of this highly sought-after Germany international confirms just how attractive our club is to the world's most talented players. He has all the qualities to play a major role in the club's project and become a fan favourite. With the signature of Julian Draxler, we are maintaining Paris Saint-Germain's extremely high ambitions, where all our supporters want us to see their club succeed."
