Evra to have his say
Suspended Marseille defender Patrice Evra is set for a Friday meeting with club president Jacques-Henri Eyraud following his attack on a supporter ahead of last week's Europa League loss to Vitoria Guimaraes.
In a club communiqué announcing Evra's suspension last Friday, Olympique de Marseille mentioned 'a meeting that could lead to a disciplinary sanction' and, according to sports daily L'Equipe, that meeting will be held on Friday.
The club suspended Evra immediately - and indefinitely - after the events in the lead-up to the 1-0 Europa League loss away to Vitoria Guimaraes - the France defender took exception to abuse from one of the club's travelling fans and launched a kick at his head - and now Evra, 36, is staring down the barrel of a potentially career-ending sanction.
Beginning of the end?
Eyraud is currently on a business trip in Miami, but returns later in the week to for the meeting that many see as being the first administrative step in the process towards ending the former Nice, Monaco, Manchester United and Juventus left-back's contract with the club.
Evra is also facing a charge of violent conduct from UEFA.
