Falcao on fire

Thanks to his two goals in Monaco's 3-0 win over Strasbourg last Saturday, Radamel Falcao became the first man in 40 years to score eight Ligue 1 Conforama goals in the first six weeks of action.

In fact, El Tigre now has nine goals to show for his astonishing start to the campaign, and all that from just 10 shots on target.

"He's a top player," declared giant Poland stopper Kamil Glik, who set up the first of Falcao's three goals in the 4-1 Week 2 win in Dijon. "A top top player."

Peak form

It took the Colombian just 141 minutes of play to net that first Ligue 1 hat-trick of the season, and he hasn't let up since. Monaco's number 9 has rediscovered the form that made him one of the world's most feared forwards, prior to sustaining a serious knee injury.

"Eighty per cent of those who are raving about him were saying he was past it a year and a half ago," said coach Leonardo Jardim, doubtless thrilled that Falcao is netting record numbers of goals as the Monaco squad adjusts to a summer overhaul that included the sale of confirmed goal threat Kylian Mbappé. "He's showing his class now."

Driving force

Falcao has scored more than half of the reigning champions' goals this term, putting him two ahead of Edinson Cavani in the scoring charts. Last season's Ligue 1 Conforama top scorer, Cavani, is nevertheless top of the table with PSG, although Monaco are hanging on to their coattails - just three points adrift - thanks to Falcao.
