Olympique Lyonnais captain Nabil Fekir returned to the side in style, scoring a brace in the 2-0 win over bottom club Metz.

Having appointed Frédéric Hantz to succeed Philippe Hinschberger on Saturday, Metz were hoping for a morale-boosting victory. While Hantz will only start his role on Monday, he would have hoped to have seen the strugglers make a bright start.

Those hopes were quashed as Fekir fired OL into a sixth-minute lead. After linking with Marçal down the left, Fekir managed to hold off Geronimo Poblete to beat Eiji Kawashima with a low shot.

Metz had intended to defend in numbers and that goal ripped apart their game plan. Still under the temporary command of José Pinot, they fell further behind on 20 minutes as Lucas Tousart played a splendid pass to Kenny Tete and the Dutch full-back accelerated down the line before pulling the ball back for Fekir to finish at the near post.

OL could have scored more in the second half and Mariano Diaz - a scorer in his four preceding top division outings - struck a post with a half-volley five minutes into it. There was a rare scare for the hosts, however, as Jérémy morel had to clear off his line to deny Matthieu Dossevi a goal.

Ex-Metz player Maxwel Cornet wasn't far away with a direct free-kick and then the OL sub forced Kawashima into a smart stop. This was a routine victory, OL's third in a row in Ligue 1 Conforama, as they moved into the top three.

THE PLAYER: Nabil Fekir

After watching OL crush Troyes in Week 10 from the bench as he nursed a back problem, Fekir underlined his importance to the side with a double that took him to nine goals for the season, overtaking Mariano Diaz to be OL's top scorer in Ligue 1 Conforama this season.

OL have scored in all 35 Ligue 1 Conforama matches they've played at their Groupama Stadium. Only Monaco (41) are on a longer run.
