AS Monaco defender Kamil Glik has received the green light to represent Poland at the FIFA World Cup in Russia, but his shoulder injury will keep him out of the first two matches.

Poland defender Kamil Glik, whose World Cup dream looked to be over when he injured his shoulder as he attempted a bicycle kick in training with his club, is back in contention to play for his country after an announcement by Poland's team doctor.

The Monaco stopper will, however, only be fit to play after the team's first two matches.

Better late than never

"After a series of examinations and tests, I have decided that Kamil Glik will go with us to the World Cup in Russia," announced Poland's national team doctor Jacek Jaroszewski after assessing the acromio-clavicular sprain in Glik's left shoulder. "He will be able to play only as of the third match - four weeks after sustaining the injury."

Excellent news for Glik, one of the pillars of the Poland team with 54 caps (four goals), especially after earlier assessments of his injury had predicted a six-week lay-off that left him with, in the words of Polish Football Federation president Zbigniew Bomniek, "no chance" of heading to Russia.

Missed reunions

On Monday, the AS Monaco medical staff gave Glik the green light for his participation, but left the final word to the Polish medical team. Glik, 30, will miss Poland's opener against Senegal - for whom club mate Keita Baldé plays - on June 19, as well as their clash with Colombia - captained by club mate Radamel Falcao - on June 24.
