Grandsir: Big talent

Olympique Lyonnais will have to watch out for Troyes' rising star Samuel Grandsir when they travel to the Stade de l'Aube on Sunday afternoon.

After scoring the goal that sealed Troyes’ place in a promotion play-off in the dying seconds of last season, Grandsir is continuing to prove decisive when it matters most.

Coach Jean-Louis Garcia told The Ligue 1 Show on beIN SPORTS: "He make the difference because he can run at players, go past players and he can also finish."

In Week 7, the youngster struck in added time to clinch an improbable victory for ten-man Troyes away to Metz. And with Troyes again a man down against Saint-Etienne last time out, Grandsir turned the experienced Loic Perrin inside out before setting up Bryan Pele to score. Again Troyes defied the odds, winning 2-1.

Grandsir commented:  "It's a real boost. We're fighting relegation but we've shown character with ten men in the last two games."

If Troyes are clear of relegation trouble, the 21-year-old Grandsir deserves plenty of credit.  The diminutive forward – who scored three goals in Ligue 2 last season – is making giant strides and looks totally at home in the top tier.

Garcia said:  "He's really improving. Sam can play on either flank, he can play off a target man, or even as a sole striker. He's very versatile."

Recently rewarded with his first call up to the France Under 21s, Grandsir's future looks to be very bright, indeed. "To get my first call up, it's a lovely present," he said. "It's fantastic. now I have to keep going."

The final word goes to Garcia:  "I'm very happy that Sylvain Ripoll selected him. Now let's not forgot he's still a baby. We have to keep a close eye on him. But he's a promising and he has all the characteristics of a modern-day attacker."
