Kakuta loving life at Amiens

Ligue 1 Conforama > News

Having played for 11 clubs in eight years, Amiens SC midfielder Gaël Kakuta is finally settled, at least according to the player himself.

Kakuta shot to international prominence when he swapped the RC Lens youth academy for Chelsea in 2007 at the age of 16, but failed to penetrate the first team in London, and arrived in northern France this summer having played in six different countries by the age of 26.

Three Ligue 1 Conforama goals and four assists later, and promoted Amiens are in 11th, with Kakuta very much their creative fulcrum at attacking midfield. The Lille-born DR Congo international is feeling at home less than 100 miles from where he grew up.

"I feel very good here," he told Le Courrier Picard. "It's a beautiful city. I like the tranquillity, it's a super quiet corner of the world. That's all I ask. My son is going to school here. He's made friends and everyone is happy at home. It motivates me."

Kakuta is currently owned by Chinese club Hebei China Fortune FC, with his loan deal due to expire at the end of the season. Amiens would appear favourites to sign him to a permanent deal in the summer, despite reputed interest from elsewhere in Ligue 1 Conforama.
