Loan-signing Gael Kakuta was once again amongst the goals as Dijon proved to be too hot for Nice, winning it 3-0 to put further distance between themselves and the drop zone.

Following a frustrating time at Chelsea and latterly on loan to Fulham and Bolton, Gaël Kakuta seems to have found a fresh lease of life back in France. The former Lens prodigy scored in his first start for the Burgundy club in the 1-1 draw against Brest last week. On Saturday he continued the trend by opening the scoring in his first league match at the Stade Gaston Gerard.

The French under-21 international has enjoyed an excellent first month back on home soil having also netted on his club debut in the French Cup win against Istres in mid-January. His opener on Saturday was the main highlight of an otherwise cagey first half. Club stalwart Brice Jovial was the provider while Kakuta's finish from 20 or so metres showed a glimpse of the talent that so many feel he is only inches away from realising (44').

Jovial on song

Jovial, whose eight goals this season are the main reason that Dijon are a decent bet to avoid the drop, then got his ninth of the campaign. Fittingly, Kakuta was involved with a delightful pass but Jovial went one better with the finish; a perfect flick left David Ospina in the Nice goal floundering (53').

Kakuta came close to making it three but was just off target as Dijon started to close out the game in the final ten minutes (82'). He was substituted just moments later to a standing ovation and the home crowd were back on their feet not long after when Ivorian striker Koro Koné, another January arrival, made it three thanks to a great pass from Thomas Guerbert (88').

It wrapped up a comfortable win for the hosts who will have another great chance to pick up more points next weekend when they travel to take on 17th placed Ajaccio, though Dijon will be wary as they have lost on each of their five previous visits to Corsica.
