The Olympique de Marseille squad received a surprise visit from President Emmanuel Macron at training on Tuesday.

OM were in the middle of preparations for Thursday's UEFA Europa League play-off first leg against Domžale in Slovenia when Macron appeared at their Commanderie training ground on Tuesday.

Macron, who is on holiday in Marseille, posed for photos with members of the OM squad and even took part in a training game, which his team lost 3-2 according to sports daily L'Equipe.

"Supporter of OM and big football fan. Thanks for your visit, President @EmmanuelMacron." tweeted OM coach Rudi Garcia.

"A day unlike any other. President @EmmanuelMacron gets his boots on in front of our players," tweeted club president Jacques-Henri Eyraud.

Elected in May, Macron is a Marseille fan and attended the Vélodrome for OM's 1-1 draw with Dijon FCO back in April while campaigning in the city.

Garcia's side flew to Slovenia on Wednesday ahead of the match against the Slovenian Cup winners, which will be played at the Stadion Stožice in the capital Ljubljana.
