Maïga returns to Sochaux

Mali striker Modibo Maïga has returned to Sochaux after suffering a bout of malaria at the African Cup of Nations.
Maïga, who missed Mali's last two games at the Nations cup including the 2-0 win over Ghana in the third-place playoff, is expected to go straight to hospital for check-ups to ascertain when he can play again.
With Sochaux rock bottom of Ligue 1, the Franche-Comté side could do with their top scorer (four goals) this season returning to action sooner rather than later. His unavailabilty, though, could give a run to another player making his way back from serious injury.
The American Charlie Davies is back in Sochaux colours after injuries, sustained in a horrific car crash in October 2009, nearly forced him out of the game. The 25-year-old came on, as a substitute, in the 1-0 defeat against Rennes in Week 22 and in Maïga's absence will be hoping for more action.
Sochaux, who are three points from safety in what is a cluttered bottom half of the table, play champions Lille in a rearranged Week 22 clash on Wednesday before travelling to Toulouse this weekend.
