Dimitri Payet was on the scoresheet as Olympique de Marseille romped to a 4-1 win at struggling FC Lorient on Sunday to maintain their push for a top-five finish.

FC Lorient 1-4 Olympique de Marseille

THE MATCH
No team had conceded the opening goal of a game more times than Lorient this season, and Bernard Casoni's men were able to hold out just seven minutes when Rolando headed in from close range after the hosts had been unable to deal with a Florian Thauvin corner.

The league's bottom side were two down shortly afterwards, though there was little they could do to stop Payet claiming his second goal since his January return to Marseille. A Thauvin corner was, this time, half-cleared, but Payet picked the ball up and clipped a delightful shot over Benjamin Lecomte in the home goal (20').

OM had won just three of their previous 20 away trips in Ligue 1, but could not have asked for a better platform to improve on that record. Morgan Sanson almost made it even firmer, but after seizing onto Zargo Touré's ill-advised back-pass, he was unable to beat Lecomte (29').

Sanson strike

Benjamin Jeannot (31') and Majeed Waris (49') forced saves from OM 'keeper Yohann Pelé as Lorient rallied, but Sanson struck the crossbar (51') before Thauvin exchanged passes with Rémy Cabella, sped past Mathieu Peybernes and lashed a shot beyond Lecomte (54').

Two minutes later, Sanson, who had scored against Lorient for Montpellier Hérault SC earlier in the season, finally claimed his first OM league goal, finding himself on the end of a move orchestrated by the in-form Thauvin and Cabella (56').

Rolando cleared off the line to deny Waris a goal with a well-directed header (64'), but Benjamin Moukandjo eventually broke through, beating Cameroon international team-mate Henri Bedimo to a Waris cross to give the home fans some comfort (73').

THE PLAYER: Morgan Sanson
A first Ligue 1 goal for OM crowned a superb display from the midfielder.

THE STAT: 13
OM have now not drawn a Ligue 1 match in 13 outings (8 wins, 5 defeats) - their last stalemate came against AS Saint-Étienne in Week 15 (0-0).
