Mbappé and Cavani keep PSG on boil

Ligue 1 Conforama > Match Reports

Kylian Mbappé's early strike sparked a flurry of three first-half goals and he and Edinson Cavani both scored two as Paris Saint-Germain romped to a resounding 5-0 win at Angers SCO on Saturday to cement their hold on top spot.

 Angers SCO 0-5 Paris Saint-Germain

Without a home victory in he campaign, Angers knew they had their work cut out before kick-off - it did not take long for PSG, who held a four-point lead over second-placed AS Monaco coming into Week 12, to make it tougher still.

There were less than five minutes on the clock when Dani Alves moved down the right-hand side and the former Barcelona and Juventus full-back's cross bypassed Romain Thomas to provide Mbappé with the opportunity to net his third league goal for PSG (5').

Vincent Manceau came close to bringing Alphonse Aréola into action, but the veteran full-back saw his shot rise over (11'), and shortly afterwards, PSG eased clear.

Draxler dink

Dani Alves was again involved, but the quality of the Brazil international's through ball was surpassed by Julian Draxler's movement and the Germany forward's delicate dinked finish giving him a sublime second league strike of the campaign (14').

Two-nil down inside 15 minutes to a side that has taken apart some of the best sides in Europe was not a happy place to be for Angers, but they bravely attempted to respond with Saliou Ciss' sweet volley (26').

The ball, however, flew straight at Aréola, who grabbed it cleanly, before the PSG attack, despite being deprived of Neymar Jr, slipped slickly into gear once again. Easing out of his own area, Adrien Rabiot sent Mbappé haring forward - the teenage France international flicked the ball to Cavani, who fired past Mathieu Michel to register his 100th Ligue 1 goal in 144 top-flight games in France.

Ismaël Traoré's header (35') and Angelo Fulgini's strike (59') went close and Karl Toko-Ekambi's shot (52') even brought a save from Aréola, but it was not enough to knock Unai Emery's men out of their stride, and on the hour mark, Cavani doubled his tally for the day (60').

What did slow the momentum of the rampant visitors were the changes their Spanish coach employed with the game won, but Mbappé still had the opportunity to find the net again six minutes from time as PSG cantered home (84').

THE PLAYER: Edinson Cavani
Only four men have reached a century of goals in Ligue 1 Conforama faster than the Uruguay international, who is having a sensational season. With 13 goals in just 11 appearances this term, he is on course to at least match the 35 he struck in 2016-17.

PSG have now scored 58 goals in 17 competitive games this season, that's an average of more than three strikes per match in 2017-18.
