Montpellier send misprinted shirts to the US

Montpellier Hérault SC have turned a spelling mistake into an act of generosity, with misspelled "Montpelier" shirts now making their way to school teams in the US state capital of Vermont, named after the southern French city.

MHSC fans had been up in arms after the initial batch of 2017-18 kits sported a club badge with 'Montpelier' rather than 'Montpellier' - an 'L' too few which saw the club offer its supporters an immediate exchange, but the mistake has come to benefit the smallest American state capital, some 5,000 kilometres away.

"The President Louis Nicollin and Mayor of Montpellier Philippe Saurel announce that the 'Montpelier' jerseys will be sent to Vermont," read a statement from La Paillade's official Twitter account. "It’s a pretty cool thing to connect two towns across an ocean!" said Jamie Granfield, the American Montpelier’s assistant city manager.

Montpellier - with corrected shirts - will get back to the serious business of Ligue 1 Conforama survival on Saturday, with the 17th-placed side up against ESTAC Troyes at the Stade de l'Aube.
