Moukandjo misses crunch clash for Lorient
FC Lorient will go into a key relegation six-pointer against SC Bastia on Sunday without their leading scorer Benjamin Moukandjo.
The 28-year-old, who captained Cameroon to an unlikely Africa Cup of Nations triumph in Gabon earlier this year, has scored 13 times for the Brittany side this season, matching his return for the last campaign.
Six of those goals have come in his last eight games, but Moukandjo will not play against the Corsicans due to an adductor problem. With key creator Sylvain Marveaux, who has scored or set up 11 goals this season, also ruled out because of a thigh injury, Lorient coach Bernard Casoni will be wondering where the goals will come from.
Lorient, who sit two points above the bottom three, will face bottom side Bastia behind closed doors on neutral turf at the Stade Parsemain in Fos-sur-Mer, near Marseille. That is after Bastia were punished for the incidents that led to the abandonment of their home game with Olympique Lyonnais last month.
"It is not easy to play in these conditions, but it is a good thing because it is always complicated going to Furiani," said Lorient's ex-Bastia stopper Mathieu Peybernes.
