Moutinho out for a month
AS Monaco's hopes of holding onto second place in Ligue 1 have been dealt a blow in the shape of an injury to playmaker João Moutinho.
Portugal midfielder Moutinho, 29, suffered an injury to his left ankle during last weekend's 2-2 draw with Stade de Reims, and although he finished that game, tests have since revealed that he will be out for a month.
"João Moutinho is receiving treatment for a left ankle injury. His period of unavailability is estimated at a month," read a statement issued by Monaco on their website.
That rules the player out of Sunday's trip to face champions Paris Saint-Germain as well as matches with Girondins de Bordeaux and LOSC in early April. He is unlikely to return before the home match with Olympique de Marseille scheduled for the weekend of April 16/17.
Moutinho will be joined on the sidelines by Adama Traoré, Fábio Coentrão, Mario Pasalic and the suspended duo of Bernardo Silva and Nabil Dirar in Paris as Monaco look to keep clear of the chasing pack in the race for second spot and automatic Champions League qualification.
Moutinho will also miss Portugal's upcoming friendly matches against Bulgaria and Belgium, for which both Silva and Ricardo Carvalho have been called up.
