Neymar gets green light for PSG debut!

Ligue 1 Conforama > News

The LFP has announced the ratification of Neymar Jr's transfer from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain, leaving the way clear for the Brazilian superstar to make his Ligue 1 Conforama debut away to EA Guingamp on Sunday night.

All eyes in France and around the footballing world will be trained on the tiny Brittany city of Guingamp in the hopes of seeing the world's most expensive player, Brazil captain Neymar Jr, make his debut as Paris Saint-Germain come calling at the Stade du Roudourou.

Emery: 'We all want to see him take the field'

"We all want him to start playing as soon as possible," said Paris Saint-Germain boss Unai Emery in his pre-match press conference - before the news of the ratification had come through. "He feels good in training, and we have worked on tactics and set pieces He can be in the squad if we get the green light. We all want to see him take the field. We need him with us and we need him to debut as soon as possible."

A delay in the receipt of Neymar's ITC (International Transfer Certificate) caused the superstar to be ineligible for the first match of the Ligue 1 Conforama season and while doubt reigned as the paperwork failed to materialise early in the week, the LFP has now received the ITC and ratified the transfer such that Neymar can now take his first steps in Ligue 1 Conforama.

Kombouaré: 'Better if he's there'

For Guingamp boss Antoine Kombouaré, who learned of the ratification mid-way through his own pre-match press conference, the news was welcome - despite the threat posed by the uber-talented wide man.

"It's the transfer of the century - the arrival of a megastar - and we will be very proud to take on PSG, with or without Neymar," said the former PSG coach, who will likely see Guingamp's population of roughly 7,000 swell immensely to fill the Roudourou to its 18,465-spectator capacity and break the attendance record set when PSG were beaten there last season.

"Honestly, it will be better if he's there. Much better, I think. Beating PSG with Neymar would be even more resounding. It will certainly be more difficult, but we love a challenge. The tougher the challenge, the more alluring it is."

The match kicks off at 21:00 CET on Sunday, August 13.
