Bastia mounted an impressive defensive display to deny LOSC Lille as the Corsicans battled to secure a 0-0 draw in the north of France.

LOSC Lille 0-0 SC Bastia

Just three days on from being soundly beaten in the Coupe de la Ligue Bastia gained  a meausure of revenge on the northerners as they held out for a valuable point. The draw leaves the Corsicans in 12th place on 18 points just three points behind Lille who face a battle to make something of their season after early elimination from the Champions League.

The statistics show that Lille dominated the proceedings. Les Dogues enjoyed an astonishing 70% of possession. But they were let down in front of goal; of their 15 shots just one was on target and that was easily dealt with by Landry Bonnefoi in the bastia goal. Nolan Roux, Dimitri Payet and Saloman Kalou all had their moments but none of them could make the telling contribution with Payet particularily culpable when attempting to back heel Kalou's pass into the goal on 87 minutes.

Bastia for their part rarely threatened but had made the long trip north with one thought in mind and that was to get something out of the game. As it entered its final ten minutes the visitors got every man behind the ball and stifled Lille for space and time. In the end a draw was a fair result while Lille will regret thair lack of cutting edge in the final third.

Next week Bastia welcome tough-to-beat Toulouse to Corsica while before that Lille have what amounts to practically a dead rubber in the Champions League against Valenica. LOSC need to win by an avalanche of goals and hope that BATE Borisov are thrashed by Bayern Munich to have a chance of slipping into the Europa League.
