Ocampos: 'I'm beginning to feel important'

Lucas Ocampos' Olympique de Marseille career has properly taken off over the last two months as the Argentinian attacker has become a key member of Rudi Garcia's team.

Ocampos' work-rate is loved by Garcia and the OM fans and the 23-year-old has scored four Ligue 1 Conforama goals in five games this season, including a double in the 4-2 success at Nice in Week 8 that lifted OM to third in the table at the international break.

Ocampos told La Provence newspaper: "It's just a start as I've only played five league games. My objective is to keep at this level all season long. I had a bad year here when Michel was coach. The last two months have been great for me. Things are going well and I'm beginning to feel important."

Garcia's tactical switch from 4-3-3 to 4-2-3-1 has made the former Monaco man a regular starter on the left. Signed in 2014 by Marcelo Bielsa, Ocampos has finally made a breakthrough on the south coast after loan spells at Genoa and AC Milan.

Ocampos commented: "I have a good relationship with the coach. I respect Rudi a lot and there is mutual confidence. When a coach and a team have faith in you it changes everything. Even the best player in the world needs that. I'm savouring it. On the first day of our pre-season camp in Switzerland we didn't talk much, but I wanted to give it my all in order to prove that I deserved to stay. I didn't want to go out on loan for another season."
