OM snap up Merlu Morel
Olympique de Marseille have announced the signing of left-back Jérémy Morel from Ligue 1 rivals Lorient.
In search of a left-back following the departures of Taye Taiwo and Gabriel Heinze at the end of the 2010-11 campaign, Didier Deschamps has netted the services of 27-year-old Morel after nine years as a professional with Lorient.
Official Statement from Marseille's official website:
"Only the traditional medical examination early this week remains before Jérémy Morel completes his transfer to OM from Lorient, after the two clubs reached an agreement over the weekend.
"Born in Lorient, the Breton with Reunion Island origins, Morel began playing football under his father's orders at local club Quimperié. He was still a boy when he joined Lorient where he remained for the rest of his career until now. A disciple of Christian Gourcuff, he began his professional career as a forward before evolving into a left-back over the years.
"After nine seasons as a professional and often tempted by a new challenge, Morel was made captain of Les Merlus.
"The new challenge he has chosen is an exciting one with OM, alongside former teammates Morgan Amalfitano and Fabrice Abriel."
