Plea pleases Nice with maiden quadruple

Ligue 1 Conforama > Match Reports

Alasanne Plea struck a first Ligue 1 Conforama quadruple as Nice recovered from conceding the first goal at Guingamp to thrash them 5-2.

Plea scooped the headlines and took away the match ball but this looked like it could have been very different when Clément Grenier (9') opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Marlon Santos had fouled Marcus Thuram. It was Grenier's first Ligue 1 Conforama goal since signing from Lyon in January.

Plea levelled (24') with a goal on the counter. Released by Ihsan Sacko, Plea kept his composure to beat Guingamp goalkeeper Kalle Johnsson. Nice had a Plea goal chalked off for offside (36') and hit the post through Allan Saint-Maximin (40') before taking the lead in the 47th minute when Plea controlled the ball with his chest, took Christophe Kerbrat out of the game and netted his second.

The hat-trick followed (58') when Plea collected a Pierre Lees-Melou pass, held off Kerbrat and again managed to take Johnsson by surprise. Guingamp looked down and out but were given a lifeline when Grenier's free-kick from the left was turned into his own net by Nice defender Marlon.

Nice reacted and restored a two-goal cushion (86') when substitute Bassem Srarfi headed home a Lees-Melou cross. Plea put the icing on the cake (90+2') with a low shot through Johnsson's legs after good work from Srarfi. Nice are seventh, a point back from fifth-placed Nantes.

THE PLAYER: Alassane Plea

Plea's goalscoring heroics helped Nice make light of Mario Balotelli's absence with a thigh injury. Plea, 25, moved into double figures for the Ligue 1 Conforama season and went one better than his hat-trick at Metz in Week 10 of last season. The former Lyon forward is now only one shy of his PB haul of 11 league goals from 2016-2017.

Nice have won their last four league games at Guingamp and have not lost at the Breton club since a 1-0 defeat in February 2014.
